Greetings,

The Oracle 9i Standby database could not be mounted.
Here is what I found in the alert_CEMSDB.log:

I could not find any conrtol files nor redolog files on the standby database.
Is there any know case(s) where Oracle deletes those files (e.g. due to disk space
or losing connection with the Primary db).

Thanks.

YOU must have to recreate sandby controlfile from primary and multiplex that here according to pfile;
I didnt see such a case in which oracle deletes files for space...doesnt make a sence.
if u have all archived logs just create stand by and copy redologs.

You have to create a Standby Control file after you backup your data, and then copy that standby control file over to the Standby Database. It will detect a Standby Control file, and when you issue "alter database mount standby database;", it will use the control file (be sure the control_files parameter points to the right location).

Ista,

Did you check, whether your file system is mounted properly, seems it's not mounted and that's why database is unable to find controlfile.....
