Well I have finally configured Data Guard and can happily say that it seems to be working correctly. However, I have been unable to determine how to ensure the data is replicated more frequently. At the present time it seems all transitions get applied to the physical standby database around 04:00 AM. However, I would like these logs to be applied as soon as possible.

From the documentation I have read I believe the answer lies with the method of “Data Protection” I am using. Data Guard is set up as Maximum Performance (I did not set this it was configured by default). I would like to change the protection to Maximum Availability (I think).

I have generated Redo Log files for both database.

-Need primary to be up all the time even if there is a communication error with standby
-Need logs applied as soon as technically possible

How or what do I do?

Both servers are running Oracle 9.2.0.4 on Solaris 9.

Cheers!

Check below manual
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96653.pdf

and find out which mode is best for your configuration and setup accordingly.
