Hi ,
On the data guard we have there’s an archive gap which cannot be resolved. Archive logs were deleted with backups sometime ago. I did a roll forward of the standby database using incremental backups as described in the oracle documentation “Oracle Data Guard Concepts and Administration” (Chapter 12, section 12.7).

On the alter log of the standby database I got the messages,

Quote:

The input backup piece /appsrv1/ForStandby_f4hpmqpl_1_1 is in compressed format.Wed Aug 2 19:22:36 2006
The input backup piece /appsrv1/ForStandby_f4hpmqpl_1_1 is in compressed format.Incremental restore complete of datafile 4 /oracle/oradata/liveaus/users.259.584103229
checkpoint is 47617682
Wed Aug 2 19:22:49 2006
Incremental restore complete of datafile 2 /oracle/oradata/liveaus/undotbs1.258.584103229
checkpoint is 47617682
Incremental restore complete of datafile 5 /oracle/oradata/liveaus/undotbs2.264.584103357
checkpoint is 47617682
Wed Aug 2 19:23:03 2006
Incremental restore complete of datafile 1 /oracle/oradata/liveaus/system.256.584103229
checkpoint is 47617682
Incremental restore complete of datafile 3 /oracle/oradata/liveaus/sysaux.257.584103229
checkpoint is 47617682
Incremental restore complete of datafile 6 /oracle/oradata/liveaus/travelbox.268.584353833
checkpoint is 47617682

But the scn of the standby database stays the same after the database recovery is done, and it still request for the missing archive logs when archive log apply is restarted, and no new archive logs get applied (which is obvious since it still asks for missing archive logs).

1. Why is that roll forward is not synchronizing the standby with the primary? Why the scn stays the same?

2. Is there anyway to use this standby database again or is it all over for it?

Thanks for any help you can give

In 10.2 you can take incremental rman backup and apply it on standby to bring it to current state if standby is far behind primary.

How about if your on 10.1.0.4

We do not have our archive logs on the primary db and need to have the physical failover in sync with the primary
