Hi

did anyone pass the MOS Excel exam? Is it worth it for a junior DB developer (Oracle SQL)?

In one month I will take SQL Expert exam. So Excel cert is additionaly.

I work daily with Excel, but don't know if this certification will help me for other job.

You missed the second sentance Michel.
The answer is, I would have thought, no, it's no use to a DB developer. Excel is not really like a DB.

I didn't understand it.
I assumed SQL Expert exam was refering to MS SQL Server and so MS/Excel to access a DB via VBA or MS/Query.

The exam I will take is "1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert" from Oracle with focus on SQL programming. No M$ SQL Server.

Will the Excel cert (in combination with 1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert) help me to get a junior SQL programming job?

At my current job I work quite a lot with Excel (feeded with Data from Oracle DB).

I thought people were born with the ability to use Excel. I can't believe that any emnployer would see it as being a distinguishing factor.

You do not need more than these current Excel worksheets as examples to learn how to make other ones.
No need of any course.

Thanks for your answer. I was not born with the ability to use Excel. Why there are so many Excel books and courses out there?

He doesn't mean it literally...He just means that nowa days everyone has grown up with excel and so learns to use it at an early age. And generally speaking everyone can use it as such employers won't look at it particularly as a plus

The excel books out there are mainly targetted at people who were over 30-ish when PCs really became commonplace and who didn't have the opportunity to learn to use tools like powerpoint and excel in their prime.

No I would never visit a course. Just take the test and read a little bit in study guide.

Thanks for clarification. Every commercial employee in education needs to read Excel books as part of their school. They are not even 20 Smile

Well, I should just be careful when buying something like an 'Excell tutorial' book or something similar because, not that i've looked into it, but i would have though that generally books like that are going to be very simple just to teach people starting on computers the basics (Unless obviously you have a particular book in mind that you know will be more advanced and useful)
