Valid combinations of Oracle software and different operating systems can be found at Oracle's Certification Matrices pages.

I tried to install the version which is shown as compatable in the link u gave (ie) 10.1.2.0.2..This gave some sequence of errors as follows..

1.CLSCFG.exe has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

then gave OCR error

then gave an error of starting the oracle CSS service

Then my installation completely aborted in TNS:Protocol adapter error..please find the attached document

The oracle CSS service is not giving any stop or start options ..its status is showing only as "starting" and is automatic..

Which version of MS Windows Vista are we talking about?

Did you try to uninstall all Oracle products and start over, after rebooting the machine? Did you follow installation guides?
