Does anyone know what exactly SQL Mail is? Is SQL Mail similar to other ASP Mail components? Does it send out email messages?

sql mail is a mail utility from sql server, its not the same as asp mail components,
asp mail components are deployed on the server and registered, where as sql mail comes bundled with sql server, need to call the procedures, or schedule the mails using sql utilities, there are five stored procedures for this purpose and the mail is sent from the database server, yes it does send mail,it can read mail, delete mail or even process the mail, its far more versatile, u can even , write a sql query, the result of which would be generated on the fly and would be sent in the mail.
