How do I select from and update the following STATE table? thanks...

SQL> desc state_type
Name Null? Type
------------------------------- -------- ----
STATE_CD VARCHAR2(2)
STATE_DESC VARCHAR2(40)

SQL> desc state
Name Null? Type
------------------------------- -------- ----
ID VARCHAR2(10)
OVERVIEW STATE_TYPE

You use extended dot notation for the user defined datatype. e.g.
SELECT id, overview.state_cd, overview.state_desc
FROM state
;
