Hi!
First of all I'll give you my technical information.
Database: Oracle 10g
OS: Linux
I'm trying to implement Data Guard, but I don't seem to get it working.
When I run the following query 'select error from v$archive_dest where dest_name='LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2';'
It shows "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
The output of the command 'lsnrctl status' is...

Why all those "UNKNOWN" status??

Thanks in advance

Status is UNKNOWN because the database is down.

Well let me tell you, you should provide the FULL output of lsnrctl status next time. The UNKNOWN status is because you have static entries in your listener.ora file (which by the way are unnecessary).

Set local_listener to value for the listener: '(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.11.12.15)(PORT=1521))' and reexecute the command.

Now look at the bold part... this is supposed to be the standby database listener... al least the one that I'm trying to configure... I guess I'm doing something wrong... or that I have a wrong idea of what I have to do....
Ah! Yet somethig else....
When I run the following query 'select error from v$archive_dest where dest_name='LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2';'
It shows "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
What can I do about this?
THANK YOU!!!

There are numerous NOTES on Metalink regarding this error code.
One of them likely has the solution to your problem.

Does this lsnrctl status output is for your standby server or primary.
this error is due to Standby server listener don't have entry for standby database.
So when rfs process is trying to connect to standby to ship the logs it is unable to connect to standby.

This is the status for the primary server.

Thank you!
